A handsome plant, x Sycoparrotia semidecidua is semi-evergreen with dark green, oval leaves which stay on the plant in mild winters. The flowers have chocolate coloured buds, opening into lovely Parrotia like, yellow & orange flowers in early spring at a similar time of year to Hamamelis (Witch Hazel).

In cold winter weather the leaves can turn vivid shades of purple and orange before falling.

A rare and early flowering garden shrub best in sun or dappled shade with some shelter from strong winds.
