An unusual tall shrub or eventually very small tree with a beautiful display of long stalked, star-like white flowers in early summer once established. Eye-catching long fruit develop after the flowers go over in summer.

The leaves are dark green with yellow autumn tints before falling.

Sinojackia xylocarpa grows to be an unusual and handsome garden tree which usually requires a warm, sheltered position in the UK to thrive.

  • Position: Sheltered in full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Moist, fertile, lime free soil. Avoid waterlogged areas.
  • Hardiness: Somewhat hardy. Sinojackia xylocarpa requires shelter from cold winter winds and will not usually thrive in cold or exposed areas.
  • Flowering Period: May - June.
  • Flower Colour: White
  • Rate of Growth: Slow to moderate.
  • Habit: Sinojackia xylocarpa eventually grows to be a large upright shrub or very small tree.
    • Height: up to 3 - 5 m (10 - 16 ft) in many years
    • Spread: 2.5 - 3 m (8 - 10 ft)
  • Notes: Sinojackia xylocarpa is a tricky plant to grow well in the U.K. and is best attempted by experienced gardeners who are prepared to protect it from late spring frosts & severe cold. Please be aware that Sinojackia xylocarpa can be a fickle and difficult plant in the winter, if caught by frost or if planted in a poor position. As such, it is not covered by our guarantee.
