Shrubs and trees ranging from creeping mountain species to large trees. Some have spectacular catkins, others have superb summer foliage and yet others have the finest winter bark. These last may be spring pruned, annually or biennially to encourage the development of young shoots giving the best coloured bark in winter.
Willows are generally happy in most soils, including damp areas (unless otherwise stated). Vigorous species must be planted well away from buildings or drains (20+ feet away ideally) which may be damaged by the root systems.
