A vigorous, semi-herbaceous shrub bearing pure-white, fragrant flowers, up to 13 - 16 cm in diameter from July until October.

Romneya coulteri is hardy and tough once established, but as a young plant it can be very fickle, sometimes difficult and may well require winter protection in cold areas. Most suitable for a sunny, sheltered and well drained, position.

During the first winter we recommend protecting the crown of Romneya coulteri with a wigwam of discarded Christmas tree branches to keep the crown both warm and importantly, dry.

  • Position: Sheltered and warm in full sun or light, dappled shade.
  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Frost hardy. Romneya coulteri requires winter protection when young and may be damaged in severe cold.
  • Flowering Period: July - September.
  • Rate of Growth: Vigorous.
  • Habit: Romneya coulteri grows to be a medium sized semi-herbaceous shrub.
    • Height: up to 2 - 2.5 m (6 - 8 ft)
    • Spread: up to 2 m (6 ft)
  • Notes:  Please be aware that Romneya coulteri can be a very fickle and difficult plant in the winter, if planted in a poor position or sadly if you are simply unlucky. As such, it is not covered by our normal guarantee.
