Quercus rubra

A vigorous tree native to North America and Canada, Quercus rubra has toothed, green leaves which appear as though they are on fire in autumn, turning lovely shades of dark red and orange before falling.

A majestic, large garden tree also suitable for parkland or woodland which gives generally its best display of autumn colour in a position with plenty of sun.

• Position: Full sun or light, dappled shade.
• Soil: Well drained, fertile soil. The autumn colour of Quercus rubra is somewhat dependant upon the soil pH and the foliage will produce a better, stronger autumn colour in more acidic soils.
• Hardiness: Hardy.
• Rate of Growth: Vigorous once settled down
• Habit: Quercus rubra grows to be a large tree with a branching rounded crown.

• Notes: Quercus rubra is more tolerant of atmospheric pollution than many other species of Oak. This Oak is also known as Quercus borealis.
