A handsome native to Northern Iran, where it can be found growing by the great rivers flowing into the Caspian Sea from Russia. Pterocarya fraxinifolia is a large, spreading tree with masses of pendulous green catkins, up to 60 cm long, in midsummer.

The pinnate (feather-like), lush green leaves which often grow to 40 - 60 cm long and turn butter-yellow in autumn before falling. A fantastic, vigorous ornamental tree!
