Product Details

(Witch Alder) An often overlooked deciduous shrub native to the United States, Fothergilla gardenii is a cousin of the witch hazel and has showy white, fragrant, bottle brush flowers. In autumn, the lush green foliage turns rich shades of red and orange before falling.

Fothergilla gardenii is a superb garden plant, suitable for gardens of any size!

Position: Full sun or partial shade.
Soil: Moist, acid, fertile soil.
Hardiness: Hardy.
Flowering Period: April - May.
Rate of Growth: Slow.
Habit: Small densely branching, compact shrub.

Notes: Fothergilla gardenii makes a good companion plant for Rhododendron or Hamamelis, as they enjoy the same soil conditions.
