A rare scrambling evergreen shrub native to parts of east Asia with glossy dark green leaves and creamy-green summer flowers followed by ornamental fruit

Although evergreen, the leaves will take on purple or bronze tints during or after a cold spell of winter weather.

This grows well as a scrambling ground cover shrub or as a climber.


  • Position: Full sun or shade with shelter from strong winds.
  • Soil: Reasonably well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Somewhat hardy. Require a sheltered, mild position and may need winter protection in very cold areas. 
  • Flowering Period: May.
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Euonymus trichocarpus 'Hayate' grows to be a scrambling shrub low shrub without support or as a climber with support.
