An ornamental large shrub once established with vibrant yellow to creamy-white and green variegation on the leaves. The variegation is particularly strong when the leaves emerge in Spring. Established plants may develop handsome, arching branches.

It has small, fairly inconspicuous, green-white flowers in early summer and thorns develop on the stems which make this also ideal for growing into a screen or barrier.
