An eye-catching and reasonably vigorous tree fern native to parts of Australia with a crown of long, deeply divided, dark green fronds once established. Gradually develops a slender brown trunk.

This plant is beautiful but frost tender and requires a very mild, warm, sheltered position and winter protection or overwintering inside in greenhouse or similar in a container to thrive.


  • Position: Light, dappled or heavy shade.
  • Soil: Moist, fertile soil. Will grow well in acid soils.
  • Hardiness: Frost tender. Avoid planting in cold, exposed areas. Requires significant protection in winter.
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate to vigorous.
  • Habit: Cyathea cooperi  grows to be a tall tree fern with a trunk and crown of fronds once mature.
