(Mexican Dogwood) Rare in the UK, Cornus excelsa is native to Mexico growing to be a large shrub here and semi-evergreen, holding some of its leaves through the winter.

Clusters of dainty small white flowers appear on the branches in early summer followed by pale greenish white berries which turn dark blue, nearly black as they age. The leaves are dark green, oval and deeply veined.

Reasonably hardy but most suited to a warm position sheltered from cold winds
