A fantastic introduction with masses of exceptionally large (up to 12 - 15 cm across) creamy white flower bracts which creates a superb display in early to mid summer. Cornus x 'Venus' will flower at a relatively young age and the bracts last well when cut and used in flower arrangements.

The leaves are dark green in spring and summer before showing colourful red or orange tints in a good, crisp autumn.

Cornus x 'Venus' is a stunning garden plant, best in a sunny position.

  • Position: Full sun.
  • Soil: Fertile, well drained soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy. Cornus x 'Venus' benefits from protection against late spring frosts, once the new leaves emerge in spring until established.
  • Flowering Period: May - June.
  • Rate of Growth: Moderate.
  • Habit: Cornus x 'Venus' grows to be a branching large shrub in the short term and eventually a very small tree.
    • Height: 5 m (16 ft).
    • Spread: 4 - 5 m (13 - 16 ft).
  • Notes: The flowering of this Cornus is somewhat dependant upon the previous years summer weather. After a long hot summer, the following years flowering will be magnificent and after a cold, wet summer the following years flowering will be poor or sporadic. This cultivar is a hybrid between Cornus kousa and Cornus nuttallii.
