This elegant, small, mound forming maple has deeply cut, burgundy coloured leaves which turn scarlet and crimson in autumn. It forms an upright, yet compact shrub with flowing, slightly weeping branches one established.

Acer palmatum var dissectum 'Inaba-shidare' looks particularly attractive when planted next to ponds or streams and also makes an excellent specimen for growing in a large container.


  • Position: Full sun or partial shade.
  • Soil: Any well drained, neutral or slightly acid, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Hardy. Will grow best when planted in an area sheltered from strong winds.
  • Rate of Growth: Slow.
  • Habit: Medium sized shrub with a mound-like form and arching branches.
    • Height: up to 2 m (6 ft)
    • Spread: 2 m (6 ft)
  • Notes: This plant is somewhat similar to Acer palmatum 'Dissectum Garnet', but slightly larger with cascading, arching branches. The Japanese name 'Inaba-shidare translates to 'Leaves of the rice plant' in English!
