A small specimen tree, Abies koreana has a conical habit and beautiful upright, violet-purple cylindrical cones even on young plants. The needles are cool green and have an attractive, silvery-white underside, creating an effect much favoured for flower arrangements.

The Korean fir can be found growing in temperate forests in the wild, enjoying cool humid summers and cold winters making it ideal for gardens in the UK.

  • Position: Full sun or partial shade.
  • Soil: Well drained, fertile soil.
  • Hardiness: Very hardy.
  • Rate of Growth: Slow.
  • Habit: Abies koreana grows to be a large shrub or eventually a small, pyrimidal tree.
    • Height: up to 10 m (32 ft).

  • Notes: Abies koreana is slow growing and will take many years to reach the above height. We have a specimen of Abies koreana, planted in the woodland garden surrounding our nursery.
