Hamamelis

Known as witch hazel, these medium sized to large shrubs include some of the finest midwinter flowering plants. They prefer rich soil in a site sheltered from strong winds, preferably with some sun. All have spidery flowers which ignore the hardest frosts, some very fragrant. Many have exceptional autumn tints developed as concentric rings of harmonious colours.
